Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who was summarily fired by President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions a day before he would have vested his retirement after 21 years service, set up a Go Fund Me page asking for help with his legal bills.
The response from the public has been overwhelming.
McCabe had set $250,000 as the goal for entire campaign, but in one day he’s already raised over $457,000 from nearly 11,000 donors. In a response, he writes that it’s “remarkable and beyond our expectations.”

The huge, rapid outpouring of support is a sign of how many people across America agree that his firing, as he writes on the Go Fund Me page, “was completely unjustified, amidst repeated ad hominem attacks by the President of the United States.”
“The support for Mr. McCabe has been overwhelming, humbling, and deeply appreciated,” his page states. “He and his family continue to deal with the very public and extended humiliation that the Administration, and the President personally, have inflicted on them over the past year.”
After a distinguished two-decade career that was largely scandal free, Sessions said he fired McCabe because he leaked information to the press and was not fully forthcoming with investigators.
Trump has also chimed in, claiming with little or no evidence that McCabe was an ally of Hillary Clinton because when his wife, Jill McCabe, ran for state office in Virginia, she received donations from Mrs. Clinton.
McCabe has blasted back at Sessions’ claims, stating that he was fired because he stands to be a crucial witness in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, especially as it relates to Trump’s firing of then-FBI Director James Comey.
McCabe has dismissed Trump’s claims as part of his larger war on the FBI, designed to deflect the focus on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the Trump campaign’s possible collusion and coordination in that operation, not to mention his own actions since taking office.
McCabe writes that he set up the Go Fund Me page because he is facing inquiries by Congress, an investigation by the Justice Department Inspector General, and other potential lawsuits.
McCabe said the money will not be used to fight for his pension benefits, which will come out of his own pocket, and he will donate any money not used exclusively for his legal defense to charity.
McCabe also says on the page that a number of fake Go Fund Me pages were set up in his name, but this is the only official one.
Unlike Trump, McCabe truly has been a dedicated public servant who has done his best for all Americans. He faced many difficult tasks at the FBI even before finding himself entangled in the Trump-Russia mess.
Now McCabe continues to show his courage and strong backbone in the face of an untrustworthy president and shady Attorney General who have only self-interest and partisanship in their hearts.
