Parkland students just got transparent backpacks. Emma Gonzalez’s response is epic

- April 03, 2018

Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez fired out a slew of powerful tweets today, dragging the Republican decision to ignore the obvious cause of gun violence (guns) and instead choosing to turn a profit at the expense of school children’s lives.

She came down hard on the “people with the power to make changes” who “keep making the wrong changes.” Most significantly, the brave teenager called out corporate greed and those who aren’t protecting anything but their own bank accounts.

Add your name to millions demanding Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH TRUMP & PENCE!

Gonzalez grizzled that a weak ploy like the clear backpacks she and her classmates were provided mean “someone is getting paid, and I am sick and tired of us being treated like prize pigs.”

She also points out that the security measures are only being implemented at her school, nowhere else in the district.

Since February 14, 2018, many of the survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida have been riding a frenzied media wave, using every available opportunity to discuss intersectional gun reform in America.

Since the shooting, the students have finally returned to classes and begun using the Republicans’ NRA-friendly answer to the students’ frantic calls to action. Monday was largely a viral tweet storm from the young activists, poking fun at their transparent new accessories.

On the bright side, while returning to classes will inevitably change the nature of the discourse from these survivors, they otherwise show no signs of slowing down. If they manage to take down corporate greed in the process, then the future of America truly is in good hands.
