As if President Trump calling his own trashy interview with British newspaper the Sun “fake news” wasn’t bad enough, the First Lady has somehow insisted on taking part in her husband’s bizarre attempts to gaslight the world.
For some inexplicable reason, Donald Trump has been boasting that he “predicted” Brexit and was bragging about it in Turnberry, Scotland, the day before the vote on whether or not the United Kingdom would withdraw from the European Union was taken.
This, of course, never happened. Trump was at Turnberry the day after the Brexit vote, not before it, and while he did publicly praise the Brexit decision, it is very hard to believe that he knew about it beforehand.
But for some reason, Melania Trump sent her minions on the offensive to publicly back up her husband’s gaslighting lies. Her spokeswoman took to Twitter to argue with a journalist over the assertion, saying that she had photographs of Trump at Turnberry on the 23rd – and the BBC’s Jon Sopel, who was also there, took serious issue with that:
"Nope. I have photos." Melania Trump's spokesperson tells a journalist she knows Trump was in Scotland the day before Brexit, because she was there…even though, again, he didn't go until the day after Brexit. The false tweets have remained up for four hours. pic.twitter.com/mMmEJGnj0f

It is truly astonishing how the Trump administration and the people that work in it dedicate so much effort to soothing the President’s ego and upholding his perverse version of reality when there’s so much evidence to the contrary.
We can’t accept anything that comes out of the White House as fact until Trump leaves office.
