After blatantly racist tweets from actress and comedian from Roseanne Barr were uncovered her hit show was promptly canceled, inviting the ire of the Trump-supporting right and prompting a string of half-apologies, reversals, and angry defenses from Barr herself.
President Trump even tweeted about the incident, proving that our cultural discourse has now moved completely into inane and petty territory. Rather than worrying about national security or the economy, the president spends his time tweeting about the stars of stale television shows. It’s, of course, no coincidence that Barr endorsed Trump over Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.
Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that “ABC does not tolerate comments like those” made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?

More recently, it was revealed that the show would continue on in the form of a spinoff series without Barr, and will be called The Connors instead of Roseanne. In the world of the show, Barr’s character will be killed off. Late night television host Conan O’Brien saw the news as an opportunity to poke fun at both Barr and Trump.
O’Brien joked about the death of Barr’s character and also hit Trump over the recent revelation that he is specifically not invited to Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) funeral, as per the senator’s request. McCain’s orders carried an extra sting since he requested that his former rivals Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama eulogize him.
“Finally, a funeral Trump will be allowed to attend,” O’Brien joked.
It seems likely that McCain will prove to be just the first of many lauded statesmen who will request that Trump be barred from their funerals. Regardless of how Donald’s administration ends, his legacy will be one of corruption and ignominy. He will not find the kind of respect in his final years that most presidents receive. He will always be hated and laughed at.
